CHRISTOPHER ZHANG
Christopher Zhang is an exceptional realist painter born in Shanghai but now living and teaching art in the United States. The major themes of his art works reflect the two cultures with which he is most familiar. On the one hand he paints eloquent portraits of the people of his eastern native country, their costumes, decorations and jewelry. On the other, he paints western ballet dancers. A distinguished member of the Copley Society of Boston, Christopher is also a member of the Connecticut Fine Arts Academy and the Mystic Art Association. He is Artist in Residence at the Griffis Art Center and Visiting Professor of Painting and Drawing at Connecticut College. Born in Shanghai, Christopher first studied at the East China Normal University in that city graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1988. He arrived in the U.S. in 1990 and attended Rhode Island College, graduating with his Masters degree in 1993. His work has been the subject of a number of one-man shows overseas and in the U.S. including shows at the Sun Cities Museum of Art in Phoenix, Arizona and another at Harvard University, Massachusetts.
